For Yet, Light, you are blind, Loucka Fiagan drew inspiration from the work of Denise Ferreira da Silva and Fred Moten as well as from the words of Cheikh Ath: ‘… all the things unimaginable in the light may be possible in the dark’. She presents a performance that explores the archetype of the shadow, its influence on individual and collective identity, and its potential for reinvention. This project invites us to resist the essentialization of identity by emphasizing rather its inevitable fleetingness and highlighting the association between shadow and black identity.

Alone on stage but accompanied by a multidisciplinary team, Loucka Fiagan gathers and recovers fragments of shadows, using figures such as clowns, creatures, ghosts and children, while also bringing slam, stand-up and rap to the stage …

A performance structured like a succession of changing forms and styles, revealing a body and its shadows in a continuous cycle of construction and destruction, without ever allowing a definitive form to emerge.

‘My name is Loucka Fiagan, I am a Belgian multidisciplinary artist of Togolese origin. I obtained a master’s degree in performance art and choreography from the Institut Supérieur des Arts et Chorégraphies (ISAC). My involvement in the Belgian art scene began early, notably with my participation in the multidisciplinary collective Chapter One. I then co-founded the collective WDKY (wedontknowyet) with artist Ánima O. Cassamajor, a space for exploring hybrid identities and creating immersive pieces that seek to break down the boundaries between audience and performer.
Collaborations are an important aspect of my practice, and I have worked extensively with renowned choreographer Moya Michael on several parts of the Coloured Swans series as well as on the creation Outwalkers. In parallel to my performance work, I have also been involved in sound design for theatre productions, collaborating with artists such as Castélie Yalombo, Eli Mathieu-Bustos and Lukah Katangila.

Musically, I am developing a solo project under the pseudonym SVDU and am also a member of the group We In The Zoo, an alternative hip-hop project influenced by R&B, trip-hop and spoken word.

My two-year residency at the Beursschouwburg (2022–24) was an important step in my career, allowing me to develop further my artistic approach, which lies at the intersection of music, poetry and performance.’
