FUCK ME BLIND is a choreographic duet inspired by Derek Jarman’s film Blue.
In this film, Jarman turns his imminent death, due to complications related to AIDS, into the ultimate and active justification of his existence. He thus creates a film whose only image is a still shot of International Klein Blue. A still yet active and physical image. An image that initiates a rotation of bodies.
For FUCK ME BLIND, Matteo Sedda uses the same non-narrative tools as in Jarman’s film to create a hypnotic experience that interweaves bodies in a homoerotic landscape. In this centrifugal force, the dancers embrace and shape each other while Eros and Thanatos interpenetrate. They turn and turn around again until they conjure up a new homo-folk dance as the ultimate and active justification for their existence.
If in Jarman’s film blue becomes the body, in FUCK ME BLIND it is the bodies that end up becoming BLUE.

biography

‘I was born in Sardinia. Before dancing, I was a competitive swimmer, which explains why I developed an extremely physical approach to movement. I then moved to Antwerp to work with Jan Fabre on Mount Olympus. From then on my career grew thanks to collaborations with several international artists.
The turning point in my life was the realization at a young age that I was living with HIV. The reality of my mortality led me to slowly transform my reference points.
Among other things, I wondered how the virus – contracted through a sexual act which, as a generative power, seems to me to be close to artistic creation – could make me engage with the fear of death to such an extent. This led me to study artists who died of GRID (gay-related immune deficiency). Aware of their imminent demise, they felt a creative urgency, an urgency to live. This duality between Eros and Thanatos not only allowed me to emerge from the darkness I had fallen into, but also gave me the strength to embark on my own choreographic journey.
In my first solo piece, POZ!, I wanted to share my serological status and my fears with my loved ones. It was more a personal than an artistic necessity, a hymn to life. Eight years later, I have grown up … Now, with FUCK ME BLIND and the choreographies to come, I feel the need to return to the duality of Eros and Thanatos that the artists I want to pay tribute to lived for. So that my infected body can exist, today.’
