Sāmara, a Sanskrit word, can be translated as both ‘war zone’ and ‘walk with the gods’.
For her new choreographic work, Lila Magnin (aka Lila Magnifique) explores our dualities. Oscillating between anger and celebration. How do we move from one to the other? Alone? Together? How can we form a group in this duality, which is always deferred?
Sāmara, a piece for five dancers, is a festive ode to our capacity to be multiple things at once. A manifestation of our joys. A celebration of our angers. A spotlight on our bodies, their powers, their interdependencies and their freedoms to be one.

Having spent most of my life and career in Belgium, I have been lucky enough to also live in Paris, Amsterdam and Sydney, often travelling to cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Marseilles and London.
Countries, places, cultures, new encounters and simply moving around are the things that really fuel my life and creativity. But the country that has influenced me the most, and which I have visited regularly since the age of 4, is wonderful India. Its spiritual richness forms an integral part of my life and every choice I make. For me, art and the divine go hand in hand, because art opens the door to the heart, to our emotions and to the soul: art connects.
I create with this in mind. To soften people’s hearts, to entertain, to make people laugh, open up, use their imagination, lighten up and, as my favourite stars have done for me, to cater to their emotions, especially those that are hard to explain.
My life and work are a constant quest for freedom and being true to one’s self. Guided by this principle, I always take the road less travelled and choose to explore. Relentlessly. Whether through dance, music, song, writing, video or the stage.’
